Virtual AIS Beacon

Creating and Managing Aids to

Navigation

This new and innovative technology addresses the need to

make hazards at sea visible when costly physical

infrastructure is not appropriate or is impossible to deploy.

The Virtual AIS Beacon is designed to transmit multiple Aids

to Navigation (AtoN) marks

allowing vessels to see them on

AIS displays and chart plotters. This beacon is not

complicated by AIS network management and

configuration features. It’s designed to do the job of

configuring and transmitting AtoN marks with ease.

 Easy to install and maintain with very little user training

 Allows AtoN marks to be placed in locations where it is

impossible to install physical buoys

 A fast way to mark large numbers of physical buoys

 Much lower cost than other overly complex products

Multiple marks can be created by the Virtual AIS Beacon to

indicate both visible (Synthetic) and invisible (Virtual)

hazards i.e. Bridges, Piers, Reefs and underwater hazard

such as shellfish beds, rocks or shipwrecks. Shipping

channels and even moving objects such as sand bars can

also be easily marked and managed.

Telenor Maritim Radio utsteder mmsi nummer,

Kystverket godkjenner utsetting av AIS navigasjonsmerker.

Programmering gjøres av SEAWAVE basert på godkjennings-

dataene

Mange, men ikke alle kart-/navigasjonssystemer med AIS

viser pr. i dag nye navigasjonsmerker som AIS-SART (fra 2005)

og AtoN (fra 2008). Selv om selve kartene blir oppdatert, vil

det ofte kreve en software oppdatering for å kunne vise disse,

dersom det er tilgjengelig.

VAB-VAtoN transmitteren monteres på land eller på annen

fast installasjon. Navigasjonsmerkene kan sees av skipstraﬁkk

som nærmer seg fra 10-25nm avhengig av antenneplasse-

ring, landskap og effekt på senderen. Tilkobles egnet stabil

strømforsyning samt tilhørende GPS og egnet Shakespeare

AIS antenne.
